In February 2022, the Russian army faced a real army. But this was not the case in 2014. On the eve of the annexation of Crimea, the Ukrainian army was unprepared to face an invasion. The resistance in 2014 was organised by volunteers who went to the front with determination but very few resources. One such battalion was the Hospitaliers medical battalion who cared for the wounded at the front. Filmmaker Yevhen Titarenko joined the battalion in 2014 and return with his film crew to film the combat medic as they are evacuating soldiers and civilians wounded at the front.
Yevhen Titarenko, born in Odesa, has been on several missions as a combat medic since the February 2022 large-scale Russian invasion. His new film Eastern Front (2023) premiered at the Berlin Film Festival.
