PANEL PROPOSAL

A panel proposal includes a chair, three or four presentations based on written papers, and a discussant. A discussant offers a constructive critique of the written papers at the end of all presentations.

ROUNDTABLE PROPOSAL

A roundtable proposal includes a chair and four presentations not based on written papers. A roundtable generally addresses pressing political questions (examples from 2018 include recent elections in Hungary and Russia, the Polish Memory Law, and the protests in Armenia) or discussions over methodology (an example from 2018 was “ethics in fieldwork”) or historiography. It is not meant to present specific topics based on research.
